2026年5月7日凌晨3时20分，中国当代艺术界传来令人无比悲痛的消息：著名艺术大师袁运生先生与世长辞。对此，罗丹国际艺术家基金会全体成员怀着无比沉痛与崇敬的心情，深切悼念这位为中国乃至世界艺术发展作出卓越贡献的伟大艺术家，并向其家属及中国艺术界同仁致以最诚挚的慰问。

袁运生先生的一生，是献给艺术、思想与时代的一生。他不仅是中国当代美术史上具有开创意义的重要艺术家，也是中国现代壁画艺术的重要奠基人之一，更是一位始终坚守独立精神、文化良知与人文理想的思想者。在中国改革开放后的文化进程中，他以超越时代的艺术勇气与深厚的人文精神，为中国现代艺术的发展开辟了崭新的精神空间。

作为中国当代艺术最具影响力的艺术先驱之一，袁运生先生以深厚的文化修养、广阔的国际视野以及极具个性的艺术语言，在中国现代美术史上留下了不可磨灭的印记。从恢宏壮阔、震撼时代的壁画创作，到充满哲思的人体艺术、水墨语言与现代造型探索，他始终坚持艺术应回归人的本真、回归精神的自由。他以勇敢而前瞻的艺术实践，突破时代观念的束缚与审美边界，不仅深刻影响了中国当代艺术的发展方向，也启迪了几代艺术家的思想觉醒与精神追求。

袁运生先生不仅属于中国，也属于世界。他始终以东方文化深厚的精神底蕴，与世界现代艺术展开真诚而深刻的对话。他的作品既蕴含中华文明苍茫雄浑的历史气韵，又闪耀着现代人文精神的自由光辉；既承载着民族文化的深沉记忆，也体现出艺术面对时代与人类命运时的责任与担当。

我们尤其感念，2023年袁运生先生在重病期间，仍坚持由其子袁野先生陪同，乘坐轮椅赴香港出席首届“世界华人美术金笔奖”国际论坛及颁奖典礼。作为“世界华人美术金笔奖”高级顾问，他以令人敬仰的艺术精神与人格力量，激励和鼓舞了来自世界各地的大批老中青艺术家。那一幕，也成为许多艺术界人士心中难以忘怀的珍贵记忆。

大师远行，风范长存。

袁运生先生的离世，不仅是中国艺术界的重大损失，也是世界文化艺术领域的一大悲痛。他所展现出的艺术人格、学术高度、文化担当与精神风骨，将永远铭刻于世界艺术发展的历史长卷之中。

愿袁运生先生安息于艺术与星辰之间。

他的思想、作品与精神之光，必将继续穿越时代，照耀后来者前行。

Mourns the Passing of Renowned Master Artist Yuan Yunsheng

At 3:20 a.m. on May 7, 2026, the Chinesecontemporary art world received the profoundly sorrowful news that the renownedmaster artist Yuan Yunsheng had passed away. With deepest grief and reverence,all members of the Rodin International Artist Foundation extend our heartfeltmourning for this great artist who made extraordinary contributions to thedevelopment of Chinese and world art, and we offer our sincerest condolences tohis family and colleagues throughout the Chinese art community.

The life of Mr. Yuan Yunsheng was a lifedevoted to art, thought, and the spirit of his era. He was not only apioneering and historically significant figure in the history of contemporaryChinese art, but also one of the foremost founders of modern Chinese mural art,as well as an intellectual who steadfastly upheld independent thought, culturalconscience, and humanistic ideals throughout his life. During the culturaltransformation following China’s Reform and Opening-Up era, he opened anentirely new spiritual dimension for the development of modern Chinese artthrough his visionary artistic courage and profound humanistic spirit.

As one of the most influential pioneers ofcontemporary Chinese art, Mr. Yuan Yunsheng left an indelible mark on thehistory of modern Chinese art through his profound cultural cultivation, broadinternational vision, and highly distinctive artistic language. From hismonumental mural creations that shocked and inspired an era, to hisphilosophical explorations of the human figure, ink aesthetics, and modernform, he consistently upheld the belief that art must return to theauthenticity of humanity and the freedom of the human spirit. Throughcourageous and forward-looking artistic practice, he transcended theideological constraints and aesthetic boundaries of his time. His work not onlyprofoundly shaped the direction of contemporary Chinese art, but also awakenedand inspired generations of artists in their intellectual and spiritualpursuits.

Mr. Yuan Yunsheng belonged not only toChina, but also to the world. Rooted deeply in the spiritual heritage ofEastern culture, he engaged in sincere and profound dialogue with modern worldart. His works embody both the vast historical resonance of Chinesecivilization and the liberating brilliance of modern humanistic spirit. Theycarry the deep memory of a nation’s culture while also reflecting art’s responsibilityand moral commitment in confronting the era and the destiny of humanity.

We are especially moved by the memory that,in 2023, despite suffering from severe illness, Mr. Yuan Yunsheng insisted ontraveling to Hong Kong in a wheelchair, accompanied by his son Mr. Yuan Ye, toattend the First World Chinese Art Golden Brush Awards International Forum andAwards Ceremony. As a Senior Advisor to the World Chinese Art Golden BrushAwards, he inspired and encouraged artists of all generations from around theworld through his deeply respected artistic spirit and moral character. Thatunforgettable moment remains a treasured memory in the hearts of many withinthe international art community.

Though the master has departed, his spiritand legacy shall endure forever.

The passing of Mr. Yuan Yunsheng is notonly a tremendous loss to the Chinese art world, but also a profound sorrow forglobal culture and the arts. The artistic integrity, scholarly achievement,cultural responsibility, and spiritual nobility that he embodied will foreverbe inscribed in the grand history of world artistic development.

May Mr. Yuan Yunsheng rest peacefully amongart and the stars.

The light of his thought, his works, andhis spirit shall continue to transcend time and illuminate the path for futuregenerations.
