Huang Huaqing: “The catastrophe 25 years ago is not merely America’s collective memory; it is also deeply etched within New York’s Chinese‑American community. Terrorism recognises no national borders, and harm inflicted upon civilians is a tragedy no nation wishes to witness. Opposing terrorism is the common position of peoples across the globe. We hold annual commemorative activities to honour victims and pay homage to the brave first responders. This exhibition also looks back on Chinatown’s recovery in the wake of disaster, builds consensus within overseas‑Chinese circles, promotes the reopening of Park Row, revives Chinatown’s business district, and spreads a message of treasuring peace and resisting violence.”
New York State Senator Stephen T. Chan attended the ceremony. As an on‑scene first‑response witness to the 9/11 disaster, he saw the collapse of the Twin Towers and the devastation of Manhattan first‑hand. Over the past 25 years he has remained dedicated to Chinatown’s development and the well‑being of Chinese residents. During the event, Senator Stephen T. Chan presented official honours to the ceremony’s organisers and all volunteers, recognising the Hotel Chinese Association of USA’s quarter‑century‑long commitment to remembering history, serving local communities and practicing public‑spirit causes.
New York State Assemblymember Grace Lee was in attendance. She formally issued an official New York State Legislature Proclamation at the venue, commending Board Chair Huang Huaqing and Association President Chen Leying of the Hotel Chinese Association of USA. Under their leadership, the organisation has rooted itself in Chinatown for 25 years, spoken up for local residents, advocated for the reopening of Park Row, revitalised Chinatown’s economy, improved community livelihoods and reshaped the look of the ethnic neighbourhood.
The ceremony received exclusive sponsorship support from the Office of New York City Councilmember Christopher Marte of Manhattan District 1, and Councilmember Marte attended in person.
