       8月16日中国驻洛杉矶总领馆举办活动为获得中国政府奖学金的美国学生送行，为了让这些学生提前了解中国生活，当天活动中包括了丰富多彩的中国元素，包括狮子舞，太极，茶道，古筝等表演，中国民间艺人捏面人表演，图文并茂的幻灯介绍了中国的社会经济、历史文化概况和中国特色，中国政府奖学金基本情况等。最后还实践了如何包中国饺子，使这些未来的中国洋学生不但度过了一个愉快的下午，有了一个良好的开端，而且提前了解了中国生活，感受中国人民的友好情谊。

       参加活动的有中国驻洛杉矶总领馆张平总领事，孙鲁山，庄志哲，代双明副总领事，及教育组，政治组，新闻组等领馆人员，加州州立大学北岭分校助理副校长Shelley Ruelas-Bischoff，圣地亚哥州立大学孔子学院美方院长刘丽容，获2018年中国政府奖学金的部分（10人）赴华留学生及家属、加州州立大学北岭分校、圣地亚哥州立大学孔子学院师生等100余人。

       张平总领事在讲话中说，中国和美国是两个伟大的国家。虽然我们两国在许多问题上存在分歧，但我们仍有许多共同利益。我们必须增进相互了解，建立互信，寻求合作共赢的途径。保持稳定和健康的中美关系符合我们两国和世界的利益。任何破坏人民与人民交往的企图都违背了我们两国人民的意愿，对双边关系是有害的。

       加州州立大学北岭分校助理副校长Shelley Ruelas-Bischoff博士在活动中发言感谢中国政府提供奖学金名额，帮助该校学生拓展全球视野，实现国际化发展，特别是认识到当今时代国与国之间求同存异的重要性。中美两国应不断扩大共识，缩小分歧，寻求共同发展。该校愿继续深化同中方的教育交流合作。

       留华校友学生代表Eddie Carrillo分享了在中国学习生活的亲身体验和精彩片段。奖学金获得者们表示十分珍视赴华留学的宝贵机会，将在学习知识的同时，深刻体会中国文化的独特魅力，为增进美中人民的相互了解和友谊作出自己的贡献。

       尊敬的加州州立大学北岭分校（CSUN）孔子学院副院长ShelleyRuelas-Bischoff博士，LillyCheng博士和CunluZhang女士，教师，学生和家庭成员，女士们先生们，下午好！

       今天，我和我的同事很高兴主办这次开放式招待会，欢迎来自CSUN的教职员工和学生 和SDSU（圣地亚哥州立大学） 以及一些曾经在中国大学学习的美国校友。我愿大家认识十位特邀嘉宾及其家人的出席，他们是CSUN2018年中国政府奖学金获得者。

       我可以邀请这些奖学金获得者站起来向大家问好。让我们给他们一个热烈的掌声。恭喜你们所有人和你们的家人！

       您可能已经注意到这次招待会有点不同寻常，因为它有很多互动文化活动。对于即将踏上中国之旅的十位中国政府奖学金获得者来说，这是一个初步的中国情况介绍会，希望能帮助您了解中国文化，帮助您适应新环境。对于那些有过在中国生活经历的人来说，这是一个怀旧的事件，我希望能带回你在中国的快乐时光的美好回忆。

       这对我来说也是一个怀旧的时刻。当我看到这么多年轻的面孔时，它让我想起了我在你这个年纪并获得大学录取的激动人心的时刻。我不禁羡慕这样一个事实，即你们生活在一个我们两国人民有充足的交流机会的幸运时刻。我们应该感谢中美关系的发展，使这一切交流成为可能。

       我猜你们中的一些人可能会感到有点不安，尤其是当你要飞到在地球的另外一侧的一个国家的时候。你可能想知道中国的新生活会是什么样的。我会说：别担心。在中国生活将是一个很有趣的事情。

       在中国，您不仅可以获得新知识，还可以找到许多方式来享受迷人的中国文化和历史。您不仅可以在校园内生活和学习，还可以参观不同的地方，在那里您可以看到美景如画的风景和文化遗产。你一定会品尝到不同种类的中国菜。在种类繁多的中国菜中，你会找到你最喜欢的。

       除了你的同学和老师，你也可以见到各行各业的人，你会发现他们友好而好客，你会发现中国人和美国人实际上有很多共同点。

       十年前，一位来自洛杉矶的年轻人前往中国，在著名的清华大学攻读博士学位。两年后，他凭借出色的表现获得了中国特殊政府奖学金。当被问到为什么他决定首先在中国接受高等教育，他说在这个21世纪的世界中，全球化正在各方面获得动力，来自不同国家和文明的人们需要通过文化交流更好地相互理解和相互欣赏，以便为人类的共同事业而肩并肩工作。作为世界上两个主要国家，美国和中国正在以极大的共同利益为全球治理承担主要责任。在中国留学是结束美国人民和中国人民心灵的有效途径。

       我希望在中国留学期间，你们将成为促进两国人民相互了解和友谊的善意大使。你会用中文说，好好学习天天向上。我祝你一切顺利，并期待听到你的好消息。

       在结束发言之前，我要感谢CSUN的教师们对中国政府奖学金计划的长期支持。我们感谢您所做的一切。我还要感谢SDSU孔子学院的师生们对中国语文教育和文化交流的承诺和奉献。感谢您今天为我们带来精彩的中国文化表演。

       最后，我祝愿所有奖学金获得者都能愉快地访问中国，并希望您能在中国找到最有价值和最富有成果的学习。

Remarks at theOpen-house Reception for Chinese Government Scholarship Recipients

       AssociateVice President Dr. Shelley Ruelas-Bischoff of CSUN, Dr. Lilly Cheng and Ms.Cunlu Zhang of SDSU Confucius Institute, Teachers, students and family members,Ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon!

       Today,my colleagues and I are very pleased to host this Open-house reception towelcome the faculty members and students from CSUN（California State University, Northridge） and SDSU（San Diego State University） andsome of American alumni who used to study in Chinese universities. I wish torecognize the presence of ten special guests and their family members. They arethe recipients of 2018 Chinese Government Scholarship from CSUN.

       May I invite these recipients to stand up and say hello to everyone. Let's givethem a big round of applause. Congratulations to you all and your families!

       Youmay have noticed that this reception is a bit unusual, unusual in the way thatit has quite a lot of interactive cultural activities. For the ten Chinesegovernment scholarship recipients who are about to embark on the journey toChina, this is a preliminary orientation which I hope will help you to touchbase on Chinese culture and help you to adept to the new environment. For thosewho had the experience of living in China, this is a nostalgic event which Ihope will bring back the fond memories of your happy time in China.

       This is also a nostalgic moment for me. When I saw so many young faces, it remindsme of the exciting moment when I was in your age and received the universityoffer. I cannot help admiring the fact that you are living in a fortunate timewhere opportunities remain abundant for people to people exchanges between ourtwo countries. We should be grateful to the development of China-US relationswhich has made all these possible.

       Iguess some of you may feel a bit uneasy especially when you are about to flyhalfway around the world to another country. You may wonder what the new lifewill be in China. I shall say: dont worry. Life in China will be a great fun.

       In China, you will not only acquire new knowledge, but will also find many ways toenjoy the fascinating Chinese culture and history. You will not only live andstudy on campus, but will also have chances to tour different places where youcan see picturesque sceneries and cultural heritage sites. You will definitelytaste different kinds of Chinese food. Among its great variety, they will findyour favorite.

       Apartfrom your classmates and teachers, you will also be able to meet with thepeople of different walks of life, You will find them friendly and hospitable,You will find that the Chinese people and the American people actually havemuch in common.

       Tenyears ago, a young man from Los Angeles, traveled to China to pursue hisdoctoral degree in the renowned Qinghua University. Two years later, he won theSpecial Chinese Government Scholarship for exceptional performance. When askedwhy he had decided to pursue higher education in China in the first place. He said.in this 21st-century world where globalization is gaining momentumon every front, people from different countries and civilizations need tobetter understand and appreciate each other through cultural exchanges in orderto work shoulder to shoulder for mankind's common cause. Being the two majorcountries in the world, the United States and China are taking major responsibilitiesfor global governance with much shared interest. Studying in China is aneffective way to bridge the hearts and minds of the American people and theChinese people.

       Whatthis young man said is right. China and the U. S. are two great nations. Thoughour two countries have differences on many issues, we still have lots of commoninterests. It is important that we enhance mutual understanding and build upmutual trust and seek ways for win-win cooperation. It is in the interest ofour two countries as well as the world to maintain a stable and healthy China-USrelationship. Any attempts to undermine the people to people exchange is againstthe will of our two peoples and is harmful to the bilateral relations.

       Since I assumed office as Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles, I have deeply feltthe friendship of the American people toward the Chinese people. I believe thatthe strength of China-U. S. friendship lies in our people, and its future restswith our young generation.

       I hope while studying in China, you will be the good will ambassadors inpromoting mutual understanding and friendship between our two peoples. Youwill, in a Chinese saying, study hard and make progress every day. We wish youall the success and look forward to hearing good news from you.

       Before I conclude, I wish to thank the faculty members of CSUN for your long term supportto the Chinese Government Scholarship program. We appreciate what you have done.

       I also want to thank the teachers and students from SDSU Confucius Institute foryour commitment and dedication to the Chinese language education and culturalexchange. Thank you for bringing us the wonderful Chinese cultural performancetoday.

       Finally,I wish all the Scholarship recipients a pleasant trip to China, and hope youwill find your study in China most rewarding and productive.
